Abstract

This article contains information regarding the state and tendencies of the distance education development in the world and in Ukraine, identifies the main specific distinction between distance education and other types of education and analyses world market of educational services that are offered through the Internet. Important peculiarities and characteristics of the distance education, examples of its organization in high school institutions, as well as statistic data on the development of distance education in our country are included. The important problematic points in the process of the distance learning system development in Ukraine as well as the factors, which hamper the progress of such a promising form of education, are depicted.
